A tribute to fallen friends
It was a bittersweet start to New Zealand’s 2024 Rally Championship season as competitors paid tribute to fellow rally competitors, Brooklyn Horan and Tyson Jemmett, who tragically lost their lives in a freak accident while contesting a club event earlier this year. The Škoda New Zealand Rally team honoured the pair with a unique livery for the first event in Otago, paying homage to Horan’s distinctive gold livery.
Ben Hunt closes gap on New Zealand Rally Championship

After a break of 20 years the Rally of Southland returned to the New Zealand Rally Championship last weekend as the Southern Lights Rally – the world’s southernmost championship event.
Podium Finish for Ben Hunt in Rally of South Canterbury
It was third place by the narrowest of margins for Ben Hunt and the Škoda New Zealand Rally Team in the Rally of South Canterbury this weekend. Despite missing out on a higher finishing by just 0.3 seconds, Ben Hunt is very happy overall with his and the Škoda Fabia R5’s performance in South Canterbury.

The New Zealand 2024 Rally Championship began bittersweetly this weekend at the world-renowned Otago Rally. Competitors remembered Brooklyn Horan and Tyson Jemmett, who tragically lost their lives in a freak accident during a club event. The Škoda New Zealand Rally team paid homage with a unique livery, honoring Horan’s distinctive gold design.

Frustrating Fifth for Hunt at Daybreaker Rally

The weekend’s Daybreaker Rally in Manawatu was frustrating for Škoda New Zealand Rally Team and driver, Ben Hunt. The Škoda Fabia R5 has been running well all year with rally wins at Maramarua and Nelson but an unfortunate brake master cylinder failure left Hunt and co-driver, Tony Rawstorn with no brakes in Special Stage 4.
